Political and institutional relations

Since 2006, the Government of Québec has focused on consolidating its relations with India by organizing six government missions and several trade missions to India, opening the Québec Government Office in Mumbai, hosting official Indian delegations in Québec, and other actions.

Politically, Québec places priority on developing and consolidating relations with the Union Government of India and the Government of the State of Maharashtra.

At the institutional level, the Government of Québec is linked to India through various agreements and concerted non-conventional acts, including:

Québec-India missions

January 2013
Mission led by the Minister of International Relations, La Francophonie and External Trade and the Minister for Industrial Policy and the Banque de développement économique du Québec, accompanied by a delegation of representatives of over a dozen Québec companies and institutions.

January 2012
Mission led by the Minister of Health and Social Services, accompanied by a delegation of about 60 representatives of Québec companies and institutions.

January 2011
Mission led by the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, accompanied by a delegation of about 50 representatives of Québec companies and institutions.

January 2010
Mission led by the Premier of Québec, accompanied by the Minister of International Relations and Minister for La Francophonie and the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade. This major mission included stops in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi for 129 representatives of Québec businesses and institutions.

November 2006
Mission led by the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, aimed at raising awareness of Québec expertise and
know-how.

January 2006
First official Québec government mission to India. The Premier was accompanied by the Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade and a delegation of some 30 representatives of Québec businesses and institutions.

Québec welcomed the Union Government of India’s Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, and Québec and India signed a social security agreement.

September 2013
Québec welcomed the Minister of Public Works and Tourism of the State of Maharashtra, and Québec and India signed a Declaration of intention on cooperation in the tourism sector.

Québec welcomed the Minister of State for Energy of the Union Government of India.
