Multidisciplinary Montréal artist Hélène Lord will be the next artist in creative residence at the Québec Studio in London. Ms. Lord will stay at the studio for six months, from January 10 to June 30, 2012. The Québec Studio was made possible by financial assistance from the Ministère des Relations internationales, the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ).
Hélène Lord completed a master’s degree in plastic arts at Université du Québec à Montréal. She has presented her work at numerous individual and collective exhibitions, notably in Montréal at the Circa exhibition centre and in Québec City at Œil de poisson. In 2001, she participated in the Biennale de l’estampe et du papier in Alma. She was also an artist in residence at the Banff Centre in 2006 and, more recently, in Belém, Brazil, in 2008.
Québec Studio in London
Residencies in London allow Québec artists and writers to experience an important stage in their professional development. The novel environment and the contacts with other artists provide conditions favourable to creative development, artistic growth, and international visibility. In addition, professional milieus in London are very curious and interested in what is happening in Québec.
The network of creative residences
The Québec Studio in London is part of CALQ’s network of creative residences. Each year, the Studio and Studio-Apartment Program offers bursaries to Québec artists and writers for stays in over 15 countries. The network is an original and dynamic way to support the career development of many Québec artists and writers. Québec’s government offices and bureaus abroad are also actively involved in this residence program.
