Robert Lepage receives MIT award

Multidisciplinary Québec artist Robert Lepage has received the highly acclaimed Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Council for the Arts. The award was presented at a gala held in Boston on April 26.

This distinction is among the most prestigious cultural awards in the United States and is given in recognition of exceptional and innovative artistic achievement. Mr. Lepage is the first Quebecer and 2nd Canadian (after Jeff Wall, 1995) to receive the honour. The award carries with it a $75,000 cash prize and a residency at the institution that includes public programs and collaboration with research faculty and students.

Québec Government Representative in Boston Jean-Stéphane Bernard also spoke at an event organized by MIT President Eric Grimson in honour of Mr. Lepage.
