Mission to Russia by Minister of Transport

Québec Minister of Transport Pierre Moreau concluded his June 17 to 20 mission to Europe by participating in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

The Russian “Davos” brought together the international economic elite as well as the most influential figures of the Russian Federation, including President Vladimir Poutine himself. This year, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum attracted over 5,000 participants from the political and business communities.

In addition to meeting with representatives of Russian businesses, Minister Moreau met with heads of governments of a number of Russian regions:

  • Lev Kuznetsov, Governor of the Krasnoyarsk
  • Alexey Struchkov, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Sakha Republic
  • Sergei Cheremin, Minister and Head of the Moscow City Foreign Economic and International Relations Department


Québec-Russian relations

The meetings held on the sidelines of this economic and political rendezvous made it possible to:
  • Forge stronger ties between Québec and its partners in northern Russian regions and discuss developments with respect to the Plan Nord
  • Hold discussions on transportation issues in northern regions
  • Promote Québec’s expertise in the forest sector as well as in equipment and machinery perfectly adapted to rigorous climates
  • Advance the Québec-Moscow cooperation project and enquire about Moscow’s major projects by and related opportunities for Québec businesses


Québec Government Office in Moscow

The opening of the Québec Government Office in Moscow, which was announced by the Premier during his mission to Russia in 2009, was also on the Minister’s agenda. The office will open its doors the fall in the Embassy of Canada to the Russian Federation. The opening of this office is part of the Québec Government’s European Strategy, which was launched in February 2012.
