Louis Hamann, Director of the Québec Government Office in São Paulo, introducing Dany Laferrière to the public at Livraria Cultura, a popular bookstore in São Paulo.
At the initiative of the Québec Government Office in São Paulo (BQSP), in partnership with publishing house 34, author Dany Laferrière participated in the 10th edition of the Paraty International Literary Festival, the largest literary event in Brazil, from July 4 to 8.
Together with Cuban writer Zoé Valdés, Dany Laferrière took part in a panel on literature and exile before an audience of over 700 people. He also attended a signing session to mark the launch of his second book translated into Portuguese in Brazil: Comment faire l’amour avec un nègre sans se fatiguer. Laferrière received excellent coverage from the Brazilian press, including a long interview with O Estado de São Paulo, one of the country’s largest national daily newspapers.
After attending the festival, the author took part in a promotional activity organized in partnership with BQSP and the French Consulate. Emceed by BQSP Director Louis Hamann, the activity was held in the presence of a number of guests, including the consul generals of France, Haiti and Canada.
Mr. Hamann, whose term at BQSP is coming to an end, also introduced Mr. Laferrière to the public at Livraria Cultura, a popular bookstore in São Paulo. This get-together, followed by a signing session, was hosted by Professor Diva Damato, who shares her passion for the works of Dany Laferrière with her students at São Paulo University. The activity was an occasion for the celebrated writer to discuss his books and his life as an author.
