Manon Boucher, Chargé d’affaires a.i. at the Québec Government Office in New York, participated in the meeting of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors on August 29, which was organized under the aegis of the Permanent Mission of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) to the United Nations.

The meeting dealt with follow-up to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). The Chair of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors, Nelson Messone, acknowledged Québec’s participation at the beginning of the meeting.

Fatimata Dia-Touré, Director, Institut de l’énergie et de l’environnement de la Francophonie; Brice Lalonde, Executive Coordinator, Rio+20; and Philippe Kridelka, Director, UNESCO New York Office in New York were the three speakers.

The meeting was an occasion to take stock of the main issues surrounding the Rio+20 Declaration, OIF activities on the sidelines of the Conference and the implementation of the Declaration, which depends, among other things, on the presence of Francophone countries at the Forum on Sustainable Development established at Rio.

Group of Francophone Ambassadors

The Group of Francophone Ambassadors in New York is a flexible framework for reflection and discussion among Permanent Representatives of OIF member countries. It is a privileged forum for Francophone ambassadors and experts to coordinate their agendas and arrive at common positions on certain issues and to provide guidance in the conduct of negotiations on issues of shared interest, while taking into account OIF goals, principles and recommendations.
