Québec expertise to promote French in Southeast Asia
The Ministère des Relations internationales, the Centrale des syndicats du Québec and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) signed a second partnership agreement in August related to the Valorisation du français en Asie du Sud-Est (Valofrase) Project.
The cooperants could be sent to any one of the three countries that signed the agreement, that is, Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam.
The Valofrase Project
Intended to improve the quality of French teachers and instruction in Southeast Asia and increase the number of French teachers and learners, Valofrase brings together seven partners under the OIF umbrella, included the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie and the following governments:
- The Republic of France
- The French Community of Belgium
- The Lao People’s Democratic Republic
- The Socialist Republic of Vietnam
CREFAP in numbers
Opened by OIF in 1994 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Centre régional francophone pour l’Asie et le Pacifique trains French teachers and provides French instruction throughout Southeast Asia. Over 1,000 teachers and education professionals received training from CREFAP in 2011.
In Cambodia, French is taught in 20 of the 24 Cambodian provinces (83%), 16 of the Laotian provinces (80%) and 40 of the 63 Vietnamese provinces (63.5%).
Call for applications: international cooperant in Laos
The CREPAQ office in Vientiane, Laos, is seeking a Québec cooperant (program assistant) under the agreement. The one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal, will begin in Fall 2012. The deadline for filing applications is September 21, 2012.
One of the priorities of Québec’s International Policy is to support the promotion and spread of the French language around the world, notably by fostering recognition of Québec’s linguistic expertise and supporting the worldwide development of French language instruction.
