Several Québec universities ranked among best in world

The QS World University Rankings 2012-2013, which have just been published, place four Québec universities among the 450 best in the world, highlighting the value and quality of Québec’s university education system.

Data from 2,000 universities are studied and 700 universities are included in the final rankings, which have been published since 2004.

The Québec universities are:

  • McGill University (18th – 1st in Canada)
  • Université de Montréal (114th)
  • Université Laval (324th)
  • Université du Québec (between 401 and 450, exact ranking not given)

British firm Quacquarelli Symonds Limited (QS), which specializes in higher education information, bases its rankings on four areas of concern for students: research, employability, teaching and internationalization.

Six indicators are used to establish the rankings:

  • Academic reputation (40%)
  • Employer reputation (10%)
  • Faculty student ratio (20%)
  • Citations per faculty – papers, etc. (20%)
  • Proportion of international faculty (5%)
  • Proportion of international students (5%)
