A first for Québec: World Congress on Information Technology
The World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) will be in full swing from October 22 to 24, 2012, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. The world’s preeminent information and communication technology (ICT) gathering, WCIT attracts over 3,000 world leaders from the business, government and academic communities of over 80 countries. The Government of Québec is one of the main sponsors of the event.
Convened under the theme ONE Vision for a Global Digital Society, WCIT 2012 will feature over 100 speakers. The objective of the program is to facilitate wealth creation and social development by sharing ideas on ICT policies, practices and trends. The Congress will debate themes associated with the roles of information technology in various sectors:
- Heath care
In addition to numerous workshops, roundtables and presentations, the program also includes a number of other activities:
- A structured B2B event that will connect 200 to 300 SMEs
- An Investment Forum where international investors can present their venture capital investment strategies and portfolios to companies
- National pavilions to promote the know-how of the main countries at the forefront of ICT development
- An Award Ceremony co-hosted by the United Nations World Summit Youth Award (WSYA)

WCIT is a biennial event organized by the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA). Since its creation in 1978, it has become the leading international information technology gathering and attracts high-profile speakers from around the world.
