Minister of Finance and the Economy, Nicolas Marceau, and Minister of International Relations, La Francophonie and External Trade, Jean-François Lisée, met with Federal Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, Ed Fast, when he was in Montréal on October 29.

This first meeting between the three men gave them the opportunity to address certain of the most important, current trade issues.

The discussions centred in particular on trade agreement negotiations between Canada and various countries. The Ministers exchanged views on the progress of several issues, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union. Minister Fast was able to share a number of specific elements of these agreements while Ministers Marceau and Lisée used the occasion to reiterate Québec’s position on various issues.

The Ministers also discussed the renewal of Canada’s Global Commerce Strategy. Mr. Fast enquired about Québec’s priorities in this matter. Ministers Marceau and Lisée thus had the opportunity to discuss approaches for promoting Québec’s development with Mr. Fast.
