Dr. M. Geetha, Controller - Food and Drug, Department of Public Health and Family Welfare, State of Madhya Pradesh; and Peter Nowacki, Diagnos Vice-President - Healthcare

Québec was invited for the first time as an official partner region to the Global Investor Summit, which was held from October 28 to 30 in Madhya Pradesh, one of the most important states in India, with a population over 70 million.

Québec company representatives also participated in the event and were given the chance to meet with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to discuss possible future partnerships.

Québec booth a hit

In addition to presentations and discussion workshops, an exhibition component was also on the program. Québec had a very popular booth that attracted numerous Indian business people and media representatives. Québec’s presence allowed Québec companies to conduct networking activities and hold one-on-one discussions with their Indian counterparts to explore new business opportunities in both India and Québec.

The Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur, through its Export Québec unit and the Québec Government Office in Mumbai (BQM), provided assistance to the companies, organized the mission and helped organize the Summit. BQM also arranged high-level meetings with Madhya Pradesh government officials.

Concrete agreements for Québec

Québec companies met with great success during the meeting, including:

Bombardier – The Chief Minister of the State offered Bombardier a choice of two sites for a cargo facility and a maintenance centre, one at Bhopal Airport and the other at Indore Airport.

DiagnosSignature of a memorandum of understanding for diabetes screening services. Diabetes affects over 5 million people in Madhya Pradesh. The goal of Diagnos is to be able to diagnose between 100,000 and 200,000 cases in 2013 alone.

Premiertech Aqua – Representatives of the company, which specializes in wastewater treatment systems, met with the Deputy Minister for Development of the State, P. S. Parihar, who agreed to draw up a list of construction projects that could integrate its systems.

“We are very pleased with the results of this first Summit in which Québec and India collaborated. We will continue to advocate for and support Québec companies that wish to set up shop and forge new partnership in this country,” said the Director of the Québec Government Office in Mumbai, Benoît-Jean Bernard.
