Québec shined in Los Angeles during the American Film Market (AFM) and the American Film Institute Festival (AFI FEST), which were held in the world's movie capital from October 31 to November 8, 2012.

At the AFM, a delegation of around fifteen businesses carried out a trade mission led by the Québec Film and Television Council (QFTC). This key event brings film shoots to Québec and further develops the markets of Québec’s motion picture industry.

As for the AFI FEST, three Québec films were screened before thrilled audiences: Laurence Anyways by Xavier Dolan, Rebelle by Kim Nguyen, and the short film Chef de meute by Chloé Robichaud. The festival is an excellent opportunity to provide visibility to the films of Xavier Dolan and Kim Nguyen, which are in the running for Golden Globes and Oscars.

In addition, the Québec Government Office in Los Angeles (DQLA), the QFTC and the Association des Québécois à Los Angeles held a major networking event at the AFM that drew over 120 members of the industry in Québec and the United States. At the AFI, the DQLA teamed up with Telefilm Canada to hold a reception at the famous Roosevelt Hotel in honour of director Kim Nguyen in order to promote the film, which is up for an Oscar, to the industry and media.

It should be noted that the AFM is the world’s largest market for the motion picture industry, since it is attended by 400 production and distribution companies and over 8,000 representatives from 70 countries. The AFI FEST is the most prestigious film festival in Los Angeles. This festival launches the award season in Hollywood.
