Québec businesses take the Midwestern market by storm

Members of the Québec Government Office in Chicago, Export Québec and Développement PME Chaudière-Appalaches accompanied by various Québec businesses in the hardware and construction industry in front of the headquarters of Do it Best in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

On November 28 and 29, 2012, 18 Québec businesses from the hardware and construction industry carried out an exploratory mission with two large American networks of retailers. Do It Best Corporation and Ace International are headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Oak Brook, Illinois, respectively.

Organized by the Québec Government Office in Chicago in partnership with Export Québec and Développement PME Chaudière-Appalaches, the mission consisted of a training seminar on the best business practices of the large American retail chains, followed by a number of networking activities with the representatives of Do It Best and Ace International.

At the very beginning of the meetings, DSD International, a company based in Thetford-Mines, had the privilege of presenting its products to the 4,000 members of the Do It Best cooperative. This presentation was an undeniable success, since several Québec businesses were then invited to present their products to Do It Best members, as well as the huge network of Ace retailers (4,000 stores in the United States, 600 abroad). According to a buyer from Ace International who was on site, this impressive result can be explained by the “outstanding quality of the products offered by Québec businesses."

This mission made it possible to stake strategic positions for Québec businesses in the Midwestern hardware and construction market. In fact, because of the access they gained to the large retail networks, which are strategically located in the Midwest, this mission opened the doors to a number of international markets.
