Québec government hosts career heads of post
Career heads of post and honorary consular corps members surrounding Québec Premier Pauline Marois and Minister Jean-François Lisée.
The 28th Annual Meeting of Heads of Foreign Missions in Québec was held in Québec City on May 29 and 30. The purpose of the event was to inform participants of the Québec government’s policy directions.
Minister Lisée’s opening remarks centered on the economy: “We believe that open markets guarantee sustainable prosperity. We want Québec to be present in the global economy and the global economy to be present in Québec.”
Several presentations were given over the course of the two-day session which resulted in productive and highly interesting discussions. The following ministers spoke:
- Pierre Duchesne, Minister of Higher Education – Summit on education and Policy on research and innovation
- Martine Ouellet, Minister of Natural Resources – on the topic of natural resources
- Réjean Hébert, Minister of Health and Social Services – Healthcare in Québec
- Nicolas Marceau, Minister of Finance and the Economy –Québec’s financial situation
Premier Pauline Marois and the President of the National Assembly, Jacques Chagnon, also had an opportunity to speak with the dignitaries.
Panels on topics of interest
Four discussion workshops enabled heads of post to engage in conversation and discuss key common issues. Among those leading the sessions were Michel Audet, MRIFCE Deputy Minister, and the Chief Scientist of Québec, Rémi Quirion. The workshops focused on:
- External trade
- Electrification of transportation
- Science and technology
The Québec government considers these meetings highly useful for presenting its policy directions and major mobilizing projects as well as for continuing dialogue and good relations with all countries and states represented in Québec.
Minister Lisée described the Annual Meeting of Heads of Foreign Missions in Québec as a means of engaging in conversation and an opportunity for mutually beneficial discussions.
