34th Québec Mines event

The 34th Québec Mines event, whose theme was Science, Innovation, Society, was held from November 11 to 14 at the Québec City Convention Centre.

Its program included geosciences and mine exploration, new findings and state-of-the-art technology, mine operations and their engineering and geomechanical challenges, and sustainable mining and its social, economic and environmental aspects.

Participants could attend the some 75 conferences or visit the 160 exhibitors from education, research, government and international development organizations.

International component

This year, Québec Mines added an international component to its program, which included conferences on exports, new mining market prospects and Québec’s public framework for mine development.

The international component was added to the event in order to draw the attention of attending foreign delegates from 19 countries, including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, France, Gabon and Russia, to Québec’s expertise in mine exploration and development. This component is also a tangible example of efforts to make Québec Mines the largest mining event in the French-speaking world.

In addition, Québec Mines 2013 hosted the first-ever International Young Leaders Forum in Responsible Mining. This forum was attended by around thirty young participants from around the world. For four days, they discussed the global needs and challenges of the mining industry.

Québec Mines has been the annual event for actors and scientists in Québec’s mining industry for 35 years. It is intended to promote Québec’s expertise in the mining industry and related fields in the interest of encouraging dialogue on best practices in public policy in the areas of responsible mining, educational opportunities in Québec, and investment and export promotion.

Québec's sectors of excellence will be the main focus of initiatives to position the recently unveiled External Trade Development Plan.
