The Minister will speak to a group of several economic decision-makers, including representatives from Québec companies with operations in Belgium

The Minister for Industrial Policy and the Banque de développement économique du Québec, Élaine Zakaïb, is on an economic mission to Belgium to discuss public policies that foster economic development and innovation.

“Our mission is aimed at strengthening Québec’s ties with our Belgian partners. We will have an opportunity to discuss our respective industrial policies, both of which focus on creating niches or clusters of excellence. We will present the measures contained in Québec’s Economic policy: Putting Jobs First and the Québec Industrial Policy, which create a favourable environment for investment and innovation in Québec,” said Ms. Zakaïb.

The Minister will speak to a group of several economic decision-makers, including representatives from Québec companies with operations in Belgium, on the topic Investment and Innovation in Québec: New perspectives for Belgium and Europe.

Ms. Zakaïb will meet with the Minister-President of the Flemish Government, Kris Peeters, concerning the Québec-Flanders industrial agreements program (Programme d'accords industriels Québec-Flandre) and the industrial policies of both States. She will also meet with the Vice-President and Minister for the Economy, SMEs, Foreign Trade and New Technologies of the Walloon Government and Vice-President and Minister for Higher Education of the French Community, Jean-Claude Marcourt. Their discussions will deal in particular with Wallonia’s clusters and Québec’s industrial clusters and niches of excellence.

While in Belgium, Ms. Zakaïb will attend a seminar on innovative districts and give a speech at Creative Wallonia, a week-long event taking place through November 15 in the Wallonia Region.

Lastly, the Minister will visit companies in the information and communication technology sector, such as Amos and EVS Broadcast Equipment, which have entered into partnerships with Québec. Visits to facilities devoted to innovation and creativity, including the Liège Space Center, the ID Campus/NEST'up lab and the Maker's Lab, are also planned.
