Québec companies were in the limelight during a trade mission to the United Arab Emirates held by Export Québec from November 24 to 28.
The mission was a chance for about a dozen Québec businesses to build ties with firms in the Persian Gulf region.
Some of the participants were also able to consolidate existing relations with local customers and partners.
Québec-based Smardt won two prestigious Gaia sustainable development awards at the Big 5 International Building and Construction Show in Dubai, the largest event of its kind in the region.
Smardt was awarded the prize for best company in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) category and was singled out for special recognition for its reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
Québec’s Presse Café chain confirmed its arrival in the UAE, with the announcement of the opening of its first café in Dubai in the summer of 2014.
