Minister Lisée’s mission to Italy generates highly positive results

Minister Lisée with Giuseppe Castiglione, Undersecretary of State for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policy.

Minister Jean-François Lisée is very pleased with the political and economic meetings that he took part in recently in Rome and Milan.

“In Italy and elsewhere in Europe, we want to sell Québec products and excellence and attract investors. The mission paved the way for a number of initiatives in this direction,” said the Minister, who was accompanied by Simon Prévost, President of Manufacturiers et exportateurs du Québec (Québec manufacturers and exporters), Carl Viel of Québec International and Christian Bélair of the Regroupement des jeunes chambres de commerce du Québec (Québec federation of junior chambers of commerce).

Meetings with Confindustria, Italy’s leading business organization, and Carlo Calenda, Deputy Minister for Economic Development, confirmed two Italian business missions to Québec in 2014, one of them focusing on aerospace and the other on the agrifood industry.

A Québec business mission to Italy will be held in the fall of 2014.

Concerning the agrifood sector, Jean-François Lisée and Italy’s Minister of Agriculture issued a joint declaration in favour of bilateral trade and knowledge-sharing in the fields of sustainable development and food sovereignty.

Roberto Maroni, President of the industrial region of Lombardy, announced that he will lead a business delegation to Québec in the fall of 2014 and promote the Milan World’s Fair, to be held in 2015.

Minister Lisée and President Maroni extended the Québec-Lombardy bilateral agreement on scientific and technological exchanges and agreed to consider expanding the scope of their governments’ cooperation.

Jean-François Lisée also took advantage of his meetings and his stop in Milan to reassert Québec’s intention to take part in the Milan World’s Fair, despite Canada’s absence at the event.
