The Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur (MRIFCE) has launched the 35th edition of a program called “Stage en didactique du français, culture et société québécoises,” focusing on the teaching of French as a second language and Québec culture and society.

Funded by the MRIFCE and delivered by the language schools at Université Laval and Université de Montréal, the intensive, four-credit program is aimed at teachers of French as a second language in North Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, the United States and Europe.

The program’s threefold focus on teaching, language and culture is an opportunity for participants to expand their theoretical and practical knowledge of the latest pedagogical notions and methods, while familiarizing themselves with Québec culture and society.

Over the years, more than 1,000 teachers from around the world have taken part in the program. It is an excellent showcase for Québec and its network of government offices in foreign countries, as it encourages teachers of French as a second language to:

  • use Québec teaching material and hold pedagogical and cultural activities on Québec in their classrooms
  • give presentations on Québec during conferences and seminars and publish articles on Québec in professional and scientific journals
  • support the development of Québec studies centres abroad and facilitate cooperation between educational institutions in order, among other things, to increase the number of student and teacher exchanges between the target territories and Québec
