Québec announces gradual resumption of adoptions in Haiti

Véronique Hivon, Minister for Social Services and Youth Protection, announced that Quebecers who want to adopt Haitian children will again be allowed to send their applications to the two agencies authorized by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec, which are Corporation accueillons un enfant and Soleil des nations.

After the earthquake in 2010, Québec suspended adoption procedures with Haiti due to uncertainties about adoption process controls in the country.

Québec then worked to create a coalition of host countries, the Montreal Group, which included Canada, France, the United States and Germany, in an effort to help Haiti establish a suitable legal and administrative framework.

For more information, read the adoption fact sheet for Haiti, which is available on the Web site of the Secrétariat à l'adoption internationale, the body that handles international adoptions on behalf of the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux.
