Québec strengthens its relations with Missouri
Mike Downing, Director of the Department of Economic Development of the State of Missouri, and Élaine Zakaïb, Minister for Industrial Policy and the Economic Development Bank, signed a Joint Declaration.
On March 3 and 4, 2014, Jeremiah (Jay) Nixon, Governor of Missouri, conducted a successful first mission in Québec. During the visit, Élaine Zakaïb, Minister for Industrial Policy and the Banque de développement économique du Québec, and Mike Downing, Director of the Department of Economic Development, signed a Joint Declaration to strengthen economic and scientific relations between Québec and Missouri.
c) transportation logistics;
d) cutting-edge manufacturing technologies;
e) machinery and equipment;
f) plastics processing and chemical products; and
g) life sciences.
Québec and Missouri also agreed to:
- work together on increasing bilateral trade by 15% in the next 4 years;
- share information on public policies and business practices in economic development, research and innovation, agri-food and regional economic integration;
- promote joint activities at trade missions in each territory as well as cooperation between chambers of commerce and trade associations, and share information on the main trade fairs held in Québec and Missouri;
- facilitate the development of research partnerships between universities and research centres in Québec and Missouri by giving priority to the main bilateral trade goals.
It should be noted that Missouri set up an office in Montreal a few months ago to stimulate the development of economic ties with Québec. In parallel, the Québec Government Office in Chicago is continuing to work on developing economic and institutional relations with Missouri.
