Québec-India cooperation in the mining sector
The Indian and Québec delegations were made up of governmental, business and institutional representatives active in the mining industry.
The first meeting of the Québec-India joint working group on cooperation in the mineral resources industry was held in Toronto on March 5 during the annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada.
It was co-chaired by Jean-Stéphane Bernard, Assistant Deputy Minister, Bilateral Affairs, at the Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur (MRIFCE), and Durga Shanker Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Republic of India.
The participants looked at potential cooperation in a variety of areas, including the bolstering of institutional capacities, market development and technology transfers in the fields of mineral exploration, sustainable development and geolocation.
This was the first activity held by virtue of an agreement on cooperation in the mineral resources industry signed on May 24, 2012, by the Ministry of Mines of the Republic of India, the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune du Québec (MRNFQ) and the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation du Québec (MDEIEQ).
The parties agreed to hold a videoconference in the coming months in order to discuss future cooperation.
