Heading to Brazil
A business delegation will accompany the Minister of International Relations and Minister Responsible for La Francophonie, Pierre Arcand, on his mission to Brazil, which begins October 30. The mission’s purpose is to develop new areas of cooperation, boost investments and promote the know-how of Québec companies. Representatives from the cultural, educational, research, science and technology, and social economy sectors will also be joining the delegation which is scheduled to makes stops in Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba (Paraná) and São Paulo.
“This mission—the first since the Government of Quebec opened its office in Brazil—will provide an opportunity to develop solid political ties and to stimulate trade with one of the world’s most dynamic economies,” said Mr. Arcand.
Following the recent decision selecting Rio de Janeiro as host of the 2016 Olympic Games, the city will be undertaking a number of major construction projects over the next few years. Mr. Arcand is scheduled to meet with Rio’s mayor and with the Secretary of State for Economic Development, Energy, Industry and Services to discuss potential cooperation opportunities in the areas of science, technology, culture and infrastructure.
Defined as a priority country in Québec’s International Policy, Brazil is one of Québec’s most important export markets in South America. In addition, bilateral trade has been steadily rising over the past few years.
