Catalonian Vice-President visits Québec

Vice-President Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira and Premier Jean-Charest in Québec City.

Catalonian Vice-President Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira’s visit to Québec featured a meeting on July 7 with Premier Jean Charest.

Accompanied by Roser Clavell, the Catalonian government’s Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Vice-President also met with Pierre Arcand, Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, Clément Gignac, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, and Christine St-Pierre, Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women.

Agreement with LOJIQ

Vice-President Carod-Rovira took advantage of his visit to sign an agreement with Alfred Pilon, head of Les Offices Jeunesse internationaux du Québec (LOJIQ). To be deployed by the Office Québec-Monde pour la jeunesse (OQMJ), the agreement will allow young Quebecers to take part in a vocational internships in Catalonia and young Catalonians to do the same in Québec. In announcing the agreement, the Catalonian Vice-President also stressed the importance of developing closer links between his government and that of Québec, in order to overcome the economic recession.

Economic seminar

On July 6, Vice-President Carod-Rovira gave an address before the members of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montréal. It was an opportunity for Québec businesspeople to discover the economic development potential of Catalonia, Spain and Europe, and learn about upcoming business opportunities.

Business delegation

The Catalonian Vice-President’s trip coincided with a visit by a delegation of people from Catalonian businesses in sectors such as biotechnology, information technology and education. The biotech sector was targeted in May by an agreement signed by Québec and Catalonia.
