Québec and Mexico discuss education
Québec’s Delegate General in Mexico City with the Secretary of Education of the State of Jalisco
Activities to promote Québec’s educational offerings were held in November at the Expo Excelencia Universitaria education trade fair in Mexico City and in Guadalajara, located in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
Representatives of the Québec conference of university rectors and principals (CREPUQ), CÉGEP international and the Québec association of private colleges (ACPQ) took part, along with people from institutions of higher learning and vocational and technical training.
During the launch of Québec Day in Guadalajara, Québec’s Delegate General in Mexico City, Marcel Gaudreau, met with the State of Jalisco’s Secretary of Education, José Antonio Gloria Morales. Québec and Jalisco signed a bilateral cooperation agreement in 2009.
The mission owes its success to collaboration between the Québec government office in Mexico City, the Ministère des Relations internationales (MRI), the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS), the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles (MICC), the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation (MDEIE) and Tourisme Québec.
This initial Québec government/education system initiative was aimed at recruiting foreign students and raising awareness of Québec educational institutions, which are known around the world for their programs and research. Close to 1,000 Mexican students took part.
Québec is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its institutional presence in Mexico this year. Over the past three decades it has developed close ties with the Latin American country in areas such as education.
