Inaugural edition of the Québec Annual Lecture: a resounding success!

More than 200 participants from the worlds of politics, diplomacy and academia, together with representatives of think tanks and non-governmental organizations, attended the inaugural edition of the Québec Annual Lecture, which was held in London on December 1.
Keynote speaker Louise Arbour, president and CEO of the International Crisis Group, gave a talk entitled “The New Face of Armed Conflicts”.
Born in Montreal, Ms. Arbour was appointed to Ontario’s High Court of Justice in December 1987 and to the Ontario Court of Appeal in 1990. The UN Security Council named her chief prosecutor for the international criminal tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and for Rwanda in 1996. She left her position as chief prosecutor after three years to become a justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. In July 2004, she was appointed UN high commissioner for human rights.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Arbour has received 27 honorary doctorates, in addition to many other awards and distinctions. She has contributed to the advancement of justice not only in Canada, but also in the international arena.
