The Ministère des Relations internationales (MRI), in collaboration with the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine (MCCCF) welcomed Paulino Viapiana, Secretary of Culture of the Brazilian state of Paraná, in April.

Paulino Viapiana met with Christine St-Pierre, Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women, during his trip. Among other topics, they discussed museology, the use of information technology and the presence of artists at cultural events. They also spoke about culture support mechanisms adopted by Québec and clarified the nature of potential cultural exchanges between Québec and Paraná.

The Secretary of Culture of Paraná visited cultural institutions and organizations in Québec City and Montréal, including the Musée de la Civilisation, Musée de la Pointe-à-Callière, Société des musées québécois (SMQ), Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), Coopérative Méduse, Manifestation internationale d’art de Québec, Cité des arts du cirque and Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique du Québec.

The visit was organized under a bilateral agreement between Québec and Paraná. Signed in 2004, the agreement is aimed among other things at supporting the sharing of know-how in areas of mutual interest and developing exchanges between regions of Québec and Paraná.
