Representatives from the University of Québec in Montréal (UQAM) and Shandong University gathered in Jinan, Shandong from June 18 to 20 for an international scientific meeting on destination management excellence. The activity is the result of initiatives by the Québec-Shandong Working Group. The project was selected during the first call for projects launched in spring, 2009 and has received support from the Ministère des Relations internationales.
The development of tourism-related activities is among the priorities set by Shandong’s provincial government, which has stepped up collaboration and consultation with tourism stakeholders in Québec. It should be recalled that Chinese authorities approved Canada as a destination in December, 2010.
The International Centre for Education and Research in Tourism (CIFORT) at UQAM has benefitted from the support of the Québec Government Office in Beijing in organizing its activities with its partner in Shandong. The Director of the Office, René Milot, also attended the meeting and took the opportunity to congratulate the project’s partners and underscore their commitment and vitality.
