Québec presents its Agenda 21 for Culture at the 5th Meeting of Ministers of Culture from the Americas

France Dionne, Assistant Deputy Minister (MCCCF), and Jorge Saggiante, Acting Executive Secretary for Integral Development (OAS)

Québec participated in the 5th Meeting of Ministers of Culture from the Americas, which was held at Organization of American States (OAS) headquarters in Washington D.C. on November 9 and 10, under the theme “Culture, common denominator for integral development.”

The Government of Québec was represented on the Canadian delegation by France Dionne, the Assistant Deputy Minister for Policies, Heritage, Museology and Communications at the ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine (MCCCF).

The participation provided a unique forum for Québec’s voice to be heard and to highlight its leadership in cultural policy. Ms. Dionne presented to decision-makers from throughout the Americas the steps Québec has taken to adopt an Agenda 21 for Culture that will establish a reference framework to ensure that culture is a major and essential component of Québec society and that culture is integrated with the social, environmental and economic dimensions of sustainable development. This vision is in lockstep with the concept of culture favoured by OAS and the desire of OAS to strengthen this sector.

OAS is the main multilateral government forum to strengthen democracy and to ensure the security, peace and development of countries in the Americas. The Government of Québec has participated in the work of OAS as part of Canadian delegations in the fields of culture, education, justice, public security and youth. Québec also contributes to OAS efforts to promote the development, reconstruction and political stability of Haiti.
