Québec: partner of the 2nd Québec-Haiti Business Forum

The 2nd Québec-Haiti Business Forum was held on November 17 and 18 in Montréal under the theme “Québec-Haiti: a vital partnership in the reconstruction of Haiti,” with funding support from the ministère des Relations internationales.

Organized by Incas Production Inc., in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti and the Haitian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the goal of the forum was to:
  • Determine ways to strengthen the structures required to attract foreign investors to Haiti
  • Create business opportunities between Québec and Haitian companies

Deputy Premier and Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports, Line Beauchamp, and, member for Viau and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance, Emmanuel Dubourg, represented the Government of Québec at the Forum, which encouraged Québec businesses to invest in Haiti. Ms. Beauchamp had the occasion to meet with the two Haitian ministers attending the event, Minister of Industry and Commerce Wilson Laleau and Minister of Tourism Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin. Since the formation of the new Haitian government last month following the election of President Martelly in March 2011, this was the first official meeting between a minister of the Government of Québec and ministers of the new Haitian administration.

The forum was a concrete example of initiatives that will contribute to the economic development of Haiti, which is essential to its reconstruction. It should be remembered that, well before the earthquake in January 2010, Haiti was Québec’s number one priority in terms of international solidarity.
