The Social Service of Commerce in São Paulo (SESCSP) recently organized an international seminar on culture and urban transformation attended by international players from the cultural sector. Discussions focused on the implementation of cultural projects as they relate to social, economic and urban transformations in cities. Québec was represented by TOHU, a non-profit organization created at the initiative of En Piste (the circus arts national network), the National Circus School and Cirque du Soleil.

TOHU’s General Manager, Stéphane Lavoie, addressed an audience of about 350 people primarily from the cultural, academic, government and municipal sectors. He discussed Montréal’s unique experience stemming from the Saint-Michel district urban revitalization project, among others. International guests included representatives from several prestigious institutions such as the Tate Modern in London, the Edinburgh International Festival and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

Since its official opening in 2008, the Québec Government Office in São Paulo (BQSP) has forged close ties with the SESCSP. Owing to its network of contacts and facilities, the Brazilian organization has become an invaluable BQSP partner in promoting Québec culture in Brazil.
