    Québec films win awards in California

    Last Train Home, by Montréal filmmaker Lixin Fan, won the prestigious Golden Gate Award in the documentary feature category at the 53rd San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF), one of the most respected filmfests in the United States and the oldest in North America.

    Economic growth and diversification: Québec looks increasingly to East Asia

    Québec must bolster its presence in East Asia, according to Pierre Arcand, Minister of International Relations and Minister Responsible for La Francophonie, who recently returned from an economic mission to South Korean and China (May 9-14). With both countries recording sustained growth and showing increasing openness to international markets, Québec companies and institutions will have to position themselves accordingly.

    The Climate Group in Shanghai

    Expo 2010 Shanghai China, which opened on April 30, is devoted largely to sustainable urban development. Taking advantage of this major event, The Climate Group held a meeting recently on the world fair site to discuss the latest efforts in the combat against climate change, particularly electric vehicle development. The Québec government office in Shanghai took part in the meeting.

    Destination South Korea and China

    Pierre Arcand, Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, will leave on May 9 on an economic mission to South Korea and China, countries with which Québec wants to boost trade in order to reinforce and diversify its economy.

    Education: Québec-Shanghai cooperation

    The Government of Québec and the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission plan to continue and expand their cooperation in the education sector, a key aspect of Québec-China relations. A statement to that effect was signed with the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir and du Sport (MELS) on April 12 during a Chinese delegation’s visit to Québec City.

    Shanghai 2010: interns wanted

    The Québec International Youth Offices (Offices jeunesse internationaux du Québec/ LOJIQ) have issued a call for candidates interested in forming a delegation of eight young Montréalers responsible for promoting Espace Montréal at the 2010 Shanghai Universal Exhibition as part of an internship program. The delegation will be based in China from July 15 until August 20.

    I Killed My Mother hits Hollywood

    The Québec film industry’s discovery of the year, J’ai tué ma mère (I Killed My Mother), by Xavier Dolan, screened in Hollywood on November 3 as part of the AFI FEST 2009 official competition. The film’s American premiere was held in the mythical Chinese Theatre in the presence of actors François Arnaud and Patricia Tulasne.

    Environment: Minister Arcand highlights positive results of mission to China

    At the end of the recent mission that he led to China, Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie Pierre Arcand announced the signing of a higher education agreement and took stock of the agreements signed by the representatives of various companies who accompanied him on the trip. Among other things, the mission was aimed at raising awareness of Québec’s environmental products and services in the strategic Chinese market.

    Pierre Arcand visits China to reaffirm Québec’s environmental leadership

    Pierre Arcand, Québec’s Minister of International Relations and Minister Responsible for La Francophonie, will be undertaking an official visit to China from October 9-17. He will be accompanied by a large delegation of approximately 50 people representing Québec companies and institutions, together with environmental and IT researchers and representatives of the tourism sector and the Centre for the International Promotion of Quebec Public Expertise (CIPQPE).
