    64th Conference of the Association of International Educators

    The Annual Conference of the Association of International Educators (NAFSA) was held from May 27 to June 1, 2012, in Houston, Texas. Representatives from Québec were among the some 8,500 conference-goers from 95 countries who, each year, take part in this conference, the largest in the world dedicated to international education.

    Québec, the Rio+20 agenda… and the White House

    The Québec Government Office in Washington (BQW) and the Climate Center of the Georgetown University Law Center co-organized a symposium on the role of federated states in preparing the next United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). The symposium, which was held in Washington DC on May 23, focused on best sustainable development practices in Québec, the United States and around the world.

    British Library welcomes Alexander Reford

    Alexander Reford, Québec historian and director of Les Jardins de Métis/Reford Gardens, was the guest speaker during an evening organized by the Québec government office in London in collaboration with the Eccles Centre for American Studies, held at the British Library, in London, on May 22. The event was part of the celebrations surrounding the 50th anniversary of the creation of Québec’s London office.

    5th Annual SEUS-CP Alliance Conference in South Carolina

    Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, Sam Hamad, led a Québec business delegation at the 5th Annual Southeastern United States and Canadian Provinces (SEUS-CP) Alliance Conference, which was held in Myrtle Beach from May 20 to 22. The Conference was an occasion for the Minister to lend his support to the efforts of Québec companies to develop business ties with companies in the Southeastern United States and other Canadian provinces.

    Promoting economic and trade relations between Québec and Vermont

    Around thirty representatives from Québec businesses, half of which are based in the region of Estrie, participated in a business event on May 24 in Burlington in conjunction with the Vermont Business and Industry Expo. This event was jointly organized by the Québec Government Office in Boston, the Ministère des Relations Internationales and the Ministère du Développement Économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation.

    Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg visits Québec

    His Royal Highness Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Hereditary Prince of Nassau, and the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg, Etienne Schneider, were in Montréal from May 6 to 8. They headed a group of about 40 representatives from Luxembourg’s business and research communities.

    Experts meet in Montréal to discuss northern conservation issues

    A number of scientists and experts from Québec and abroad took part on April 26 and 27 in an International Scientific Symposium held under the theme “Planning the Conservation of Québec’s Northern Ecosystems: The Challenge of a Decade.” The event was an opportunity for the participants to share their knowledge of major issues related to Québec’s commitment to protect 50% of the Plan Nord (Northern Plan) territory.
