    Québec contingent headed for Francophone Games

    A Québec delegation of over 90 performers, athletes and attendants will be heading for Nice, France, for the 7th Francophone Games, to be held from September 7 to 15.

    Québec’s team wins 12 medals at the 2013 Games of La Francophonie

    By the end of the 7th Games of La Francophonie held in Nice, France from September 7 to 15, the athletes and artists on Québec’s team had won a total of 12 medals in six sporting and artistic events, which is four more than Québec’s team won in the previous games in Beirut, Lebanon in 2009.

    Young artists wanted for the cultural competitions of the Jeux de la Francophonie 2013

    Nice will host the 7th Jeux de la Francophonie from September 6 to 15, 2013. Québec is looking for young Quebecers to represent it in the cultural competitions of these games. The candidates selected by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) will join more than 3,000 young people from 75 different Francophonie member states and governments at this event, which is intended to bring together the world’s French-speaking people.

    Offices jeunesse internationaux awards

    The 4th edition of the Offices jeunesse internationaux du Québec (LOJIQ) award ceremony was held at the National Assembly on May 29 to recognize the excellence of 12 international youth mobility projects. The Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, presented two awards, including the Grand Prix LOJIQ 2012.

    Agreement on the use of French during the London Olympics

    The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Grand témoin de la Francophonie for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Sebastian Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), signed an agreement in Québec City at the 10th SportAccord Convention in Québec City on the use of French during these summer games. Gilbert Felli, IOC Executive Director for the Olympic Games, attended the signing.

    2009 Francophone Games: some 70 athletes and artists from Québec

    The Québec delegation that will participate in the 6th edition of the Jeux de la Francophonie (Francophone Games) from September 27 to October 6 in Lebanon was introduced recently by the Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, Pierre Arcand, and Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women, Christine St-Pierre. This delegation is made up of some 70 athletes and artists who will represent Québec at the only international games where Québec is represented by its own team.
