    Québec House in Saint-Malo: discovering Québec!

    Québec House in Saint-Malo is once again inviting Saint-Malo residents and tourists on a journey to discover Québec culture from May 1 to August 31. Films, literary discussions, concerts, theatre, dance, lectures and comedy are all part of the activities scheduled throughout the summer to enable visitors to enjoy Québec’s new talent.

    Alliances with Catalan teaching centres

    In conjunction with the 6th Québec – Catalonia Joint Cooperation Committee, CÉGEP International carried out its second mission to Catalonia in May to consolidate mobility agreements and promote Québec CÉGEPs. The Québec Government Office in Barcelona actively supported CÉGEP International in setting up its schedule of meetings.

    European Parliament Conference: Québec’s lead in sustainable development

    Québec Delegate General in Brussels Christos Sirros, Associate Deputy Minister at Forêt Québec Richard Savard, and MDDEP representative Robert Noël de Tilly (Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et des Parcs) recently took part in a conference in Brussels organized by the European Intergroup on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development. They were invited to present the Québec model, since Québec is viewed as a pioneer in sustainable development and forest management.

    Robert Lepage receives MIT award

    Multidisciplinary Québec artist Robert Lepage has received the highly acclaimed Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Council for the Arts. The award was presented at a gala held in Boston on April 26.

    Spotlight on Québec design in Milan

    In March, 2012, the Government Office in Rome and Québec Trade Branch in Milan organized a promotional activity entitled Tendenza Québec a Milano : creatività e design (Québec trends in Milan: creativity and design). Arranged in collaboration with the Lombardy region, the event was devised to promote Québec design. Design is a strategic sector for the Lombardy regional economy and is the basis for its brand image abroad, especially for the city of Milan.

    University agreements signed with Brazil

    From April 25 to 28, Rio de Janeiro hosted the second edition of the Conference of the Americas on International Education, CAIE-Brazil 2012. About twenty representatives from Québec universities attended the conference. Some succeeded in building new alliances.

    Symposium on the integration of immigrants in urban areas

    Since immigrant integration is an issue common to a number of countries, a symposium on the integration of immigrants in urban areas was organized by the Canadian Embassy and the Mission to the European Union, in collaboration with the Québec Government Office in Brussels and the King Baudouin Foundation. The symposium was an opportunity to share good practices in this regard and compare the situation in five cities: Antwerp, Brussels, Verviers, Toronto and Montréal.

    Francophone Days in Rome

    The Commissioner General of the first French Language World Forum, Michel Audet, opened a panel discussion entitled “Le langage des jeunes, c koi?” (the language of young people, what’s that?) in Rome on March 21. The event was organized in conjunction with Francophone Days in Rome by the heads of Francophone missions in Rome. Québec Government Representative in Rome Amalia Daniela Renosto is a member of the group. Mr. Audet took the opportunity afforded by the panel to inform the Roman Francophones and Francophiles in attendance about the Forum’s program by outlining the event’s major issues and highlights.

    La Francophonie celebrated in Tokyo and Kobe

    Over 500 people attended the International Francophonie celebration held at the French-Japanese Institute in Tokyo. The event, which had to be cancelled last year because of the earthquake in Japan, proved very popular with the Japanese public. The Québec Government Office in Tokyo set up an information booth and promoted Québec cranberries – a natural product that is highly-sought after by the Japanese.
