    Digital arts artist and studio-apartment exchanges between Québec and France

    The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) and the Institut français recently signed a three-year agreement regarding exchanges of digital arts artists and studio-apartments. Every year beginning in 2013, two Québec artists will go to Paris and two French artists will come to Montréal for three months.

    Great Lakes and St. Lawrence city mayors hold discussions in Québec City

    Québec City recently played host to the 9th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Great Lakes & St. Lawrence Cities Initiative (GLSLCI). Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy Laurent Lessard; Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks Pierre Arcand; Québec Delegate in Chicago Éric Marquis; and United States Ambassador to Canada David Jacobson participated in this major event that brought together mayors and local elected officials from over 80 municipalities in Québec, Ontario and the United States.

    Young artists wanted for the cultural competitions of the Jeux de la Francophonie 2013

    Nice will host the 7th Jeux de la Francophonie from September 6 to 15, 2013. Québec is looking for young Quebecers to represent it in the cultural competitions of these games. The candidates selected by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) will join more than 3,000 young people from 75 different Francophonie member states and governments at this event, which is intended to bring together the world’s French-speaking people.

    Québec company inaugurates aircraft training centre in Barcelona

    Québec company CAE, a global leader in modeling, simulation and training for civil aviation and defence, has inaugurated a new commercial aircraft training centre in Barcelona. With a capacity to train more than 600 pilots and 1,000 cabin crew per year, the facility will work hand in hand with Spanish airline company Vueling Airlines, the anchor customer for the project.

    Québec in the spotlight at French Language World Forum

    Québec was a stand out at the very first French Language Forum of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), which was held in Québec City July 2 to 6. The Forum brought together 1,300 participants from civil society from 104 countries for a week of activities, testimonials and debates on the French language, its current situation and its future. Quebecers also answered the call of the Forum and OIF, coming out in great numbers to take part in the cultural activities happening around the city that were open to the public.

    Québec business delegation travels to France for Sunny Side of the Doc

    The Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) recently coordinated the presence of a delegation of Québec documentary film production and distribution businesses at Sunny Side of the Doc, an internationally renowned documentary trade fair. The 23rd edition of the event was held in June at Espace Encan, in the French city of La Rochelle.

    Aerospace: Québec in Farnborough

    Sam Hamad, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, will head the Québec delegation that will attend the 62nd Farnborough International Airshow from July 8 to 12. Around twenty businesses and organizations from Québec’s aerospace industry will also be in attendance.

    Catalonia’s Vice President inquires about Québec's electoral processes

    As part of a cooperation project between the Catalonian government and the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Joana Ortega, Vice President of Catalonia, led a delegation to Quebec City on June 28 and 29. This visit is one of the results of the mission made to Catalonia in March by Jacques Drouin, Chief Electoral Officer.

    Two young translator-revisers from Québec to attend the Olympic Games in London thanks to LOJIQ

    The Offices Jeunesse internationaux du Québec (LOJIQ), in partnership with the Ministère des Relations Internationales, the Québec Government Office in London, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), will provide support to two young Québec translators, Éliane Pagé and Béatrice Rea, so that they can enjoy a unique experience at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
