    Minister Gagnon-Tremblay meets with French Minister of Foreign Affairs

    Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie Monique Gagnon-Tremblay met with French Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Fabius on June 26 at the end of her mission to France. It was the first mission by a Québec minister to France since the new government was sworn in.

    Mayor of Paris appointed Officer in the National Order of Québec

    Premier Jean Charest appointed the Mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, to the rank of Officer in the National Order of Québec during a July 3 ceremony held in the Parliament Building’s Legislative Council Chamber in Québec City.

    Québec City hosts French Language World Forum

    The first French Language World Forum, organized under the auspices of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) in close collaboration with the Government of Québec, will take place in Québec City from July 2 to 6, 2012. It will provide an ideal platform for highlighting and demonstrating the influence and dynamic nature of French, and will present it as a modern and attractive language, while stressing its vitality and pluralism. The event will also initiate a collective consideration of the future of French.

    Québec design a standout in Chicago

    The Chicago Merchandise Mart recently hosted hundred of companies at the NeoCON commercial design exhibition, one of the largest in North America. Québec Government House in Chicago supported the participation of a number of Québec companies, including American-Biltrite (Sherbrooke), Teknion Roy&Breton (Lévis) and Groupe Lacasse (St-Pie-de-Bagot), which were standouts at the event.

    Major archeological operation at Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan

    Christine St-Pierre, the Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women, accompanied by Peter A. O’Donohue, the Consul General of the United States, announced on June 14 that the Government of Québec was authorizing an archeological operation on a WWII wreck discovered in 2009 in the St. Lawrence River off Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan.

    Québec, Vermont and New York discuss cross-border security

    The Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars hosted a conference on Canada-U.S. regional cross-border public security collaboration in Washington, D.C., on June 14. Before a packed house at the Wilson Center, Mathieu Ferland (Sûreté du Québec), James Horton (New York State Office of Counter Terrorism) and Michael J. Manning (Vermont State Police) discussed the real impact of cross-border collaboration between Québec and its U.S. neighbours with respect to preventing criminal activity in northeastern North America.

    Bavarian businesses and researchers show interest in Plan Nord

    Québec Minister of Transport Pierre Moreau participated in the Plan Nord Seminar in Munich on June 18, organized by the Québec Government Office in collaboration with the Bavarian Industry Association. The event was an extension of Québec Premier Jean Charest’s promotional tour of the Plan Nord in Germany in June, 2011. Over 150 people attended presentations and round tables on the business and research opportunities afforded by this large-scale project.

    12th Meeting of Québec-Bavaria Working Group in Munich

    The 12th Meeting of the Québec-Bavaria Working Group was held in Munich on June 15. For 2012-2014, 54 projects were selected in the following areas: politics, administration, economy, science, technology, the environment, education, youth, culture and society. The Meeting was co-chaired by Marc Croteau, Deputy Minister of International Relation of Québec, and Jörg Vogel, Head of International Relations at the Bavarian State Chancellery.
