    Symposium on the integration of immigrants in urban areas

    Since immigrant integration is an issue common to a number of countries, a symposium on the integration of immigrants in urban areas was organized by the Canadian Embassy and the Mission to the European Union, in collaboration with the Québec Government Office in Brussels and the King Baudouin Foundation. The symposium was an opportunity to share good practices in this regard and compare the situation in five cities: Antwerp, Brussels, Verviers, Toronto and Montréal.

    Francophone Days in Rome

    The Commissioner General of the first French Language World Forum, Michel Audet, opened a panel discussion entitled “Le langage des jeunes, c koi?” (the language of young people, what’s that?) in Rome on March 21. The event was organized in conjunction with Francophone Days in Rome by the heads of Francophone missions in Rome. Québec Government Representative in Rome Amalia Daniela Renosto is a member of the group. Mr. Audet took the opportunity afforded by the panel to inform the Roman Francophones and Francophiles in attendance about the Forum’s program by outlining the event’s major issues and highlights.

    La Francophonie celebrated in Tokyo and Kobe

    Over 500 people attended the International Francophonie celebration held at the French-Japanese Institute in Tokyo. The event, which had to be cancelled last year because of the earthquake in Japan, proved very popular with the Japanese public. The Québec Government Office in Tokyo set up an information booth and promoted Québec cranberries – a natural product that is highly-sought after by the Japanese.

    Mission to Paris by Premier Jean Charest

    Québec Premier Jean Charest ended a three-day mission to Paris on March 16 with a lecture at the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI). He addressed an audience of about 200 people on the topic “Québec on the international scene: issues and perspectives.”

    Pauline Marois to host French Prime Minister

    The Premier of Québec, Pauline Marois, will welcome the Prime Minister of the French Republic, Jean-Marc Ayrault, to Québec on March 14 and 15 for the 17th Alternating Meeting of the Premier of Québec and the Prime Minister of France.

    MRIFCE receives new mandate related to external trade – transitional period

    Following the formation of the new Cabinet on September 19, 2012, the Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur (MRIFCE) was tasked with a new mandate, i.e., the export mandate previously assigned to the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation (MDEIE).

    Québec - France: A direct and privileged relationship based on innovation and creativity

    The Premier of Québec carried out her first mission to France at the invitation of President François Hollande to establish contact with French political authorities. During her visit, both governments laid the groundwork for a new stage of relations based on innovation and creativity, especially with regard to youth, culture and the economy in order to further affirm the uniqueness of relations between France and Québec in concrete terms.

    Pauline Marois received by President of French Republic

    Québec Premier Pauline Marois kicked off her first mission to France by holding discussions with the President of the French Republic, François Hollande. During a joint press briefing with the President, the Premier underscored Québec’s attachment to France and the desire of her government to strengthen this historic relationship even further.

    La Francophonie will develop an economic strategy

    Pauline Marois, the Premier of Québec, welcomes the decision by the heads of state and government to call for the Francophonie to develop an economic strategy that will be tabled at its next Summit in Senegal in 2014. The Premier wanted to underscore her avowed desire to strengthen the francophone economic space by pooling the efforts of all economic players.
